Filling and Testing

Filling and testing is the phase in pool construction where the pool is filled with water, and all systems—plumbing, electrical, filtration, and heating—are thoroughly tested to ensure proper functionality before the pool is ready for use. This stage marks the transition from construction to operational readiness. Filling involves slowly adding water to the pool, typically in stages, to allow the structure to adjust evenly. During this process, it’s crucial to monitor the water level, as the weight of the water can impact the pool shell, especially in concrete pools. For vinyl-lined or fiberglass pools, proper filling also ensures the liner is properly settled and aligned. The pool should be filled to the appropriate level as per design specifications, with the skimmer and overflow outlets aligned for proper water circulation.

Testing begins as soon as the pool is filled. The filtration system is activated to check for consistent water flow and proper filtration. The pump, valves, and main drain are all tested to ensure there are no leaks or malfunctions. Any issues with water flow, pressure, or circulation are addressed before the pool is considered fully operational. Electrical systems, including lighting and safety features like alarms or automatic covers, are also tested to verify their functionality and safety compliance.

Once all systems are tested and functioning correctly, the water chemistry is balanced, including the levels of pH, chlorine, alkalinity, and calcium hardness, to ensure safe and healthy pool water. The pool’s chemical levels must be monitored and adjusted until they are within ideal ranges.

This phase is essential for identifying and addressing any potential problems before the pool is officially handed over for regular use, ensuring a safe, efficient, and enjoyable swimming experience.
